MELBOURNE —Buffalo Creek’s 10-11 All-Star team’s quest to win a state championship was stopped Monday by South Fort Myers.
Buffalo Creek lost 2-0 in the state semifinal game in Melbourne, ending its ride just short of the the Southeast Region Tournament in Greenville, N.C.
“I think they did well,” said Buffalo Creek coach Scott Sullivan. “Extremely well.”
Sullivan said Buffalo Creek loaded the bases three times but failed to score.
“A couple of key hits could have blown it open,” Sullivan said.
The players’ summer is far from over: Buffalo Creek’s team plays its travel ball with the Parrish-based Piranhas. Their season begins 8:30 a.m. Tuesday with the Triple Crown Summer Nationals in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
“They meshed together,” Sullivan said of the Buffalo Creek squad, “and went a lot further than anybody expected.”
