UPCOMING EVENTS

May 29-June 5: The Manatee Area Youth Soccer Organization has announced competitive soccer tryouts and free soccer clinics. The Manatee Magic competitive soccer tryouts at G.T. Bray park will be conducted on the field near the concession stand from 6-8 p.m. On May 29 and June 4, the tryouts will be for U9 and U10 boys and U-9-U11 girls. On May 30 and June 5, the tryouts will be for U11 and U12 boys and U12-U14 girls. On May 31 and June 6, the tryouts will be for U13 and U14 boys and U14 and U15+ girls. The free MAYSO soccer clinics for players who want to sharpen their skills prior to competitive tryouts will be from 6-8 p.m. at G.T. Bray on the field near the concession stand. The clinic on May 14 and 21 is for U9 and U10 boys and U-9-U11 girls. On May 15 and 22, the clinic will be for U11 and U12 boys and U12-U14 girls. On May 16 and 23, the clinic will be for U13 and U14 boys and U14 and U15+ girls. The MAYSO summer camp will be held 9 a.m.-3 p.m. July 9-13 at G.T. Bray on the field near the concession stand. June 5-Aug. 14: The Celsius Tennis Academy at the Bath & Racquet Tennis Club in Sarasota will offer several tennis camps this summer.

n The Celsius Future Champions camp is designed for players who have graduated from the pre-intermediate level program or who have existing tennis knowledge and skill, including forehand, backhand, serve and volley. The camp is for ages 6-13 and runs from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday and includes lunch. The program dates run June 5-30, July 1-31 and Aug. 1-14. The cost is $230-$850 depending on the duration and frequency of participation.

n The Celsius Drop-in Program is for the confident intermediate-plus player who are looking for game and skill training sessions without an ongoing commitment. The program is for ages 7-18 and runs Monday through Friday. The cost is $90-$150 per day for 2-4 hours of coaching during regular summer practice hours.

n The Celsius 90-degree Junior Development Program is for players who want to learn how to compete and have a strong desire to improve and take their game to the next level. For ages 7-16, the program runs 9-11 a.m. Monday-Friday. The cost is $250 per week or $750 per month (three days per week) or $400 per week or $1,000 per month (five days per week).

n The Celsius 180-degree Academy Program is for dedicated, competitive players who have a long-term commitment to the sport and a work ethic to work on strategy, stroke production and other aspects of the game. The program is for ages 10-18 and runs Monday-Friday for 2-, 3-, 4- and 6-hour-per-day options. The cost is $250 per week or $2,000 per month based on three-times-per-week participation. There is also a daily drop-in option at $90-$150 with no ongoing commitment required.

June 8-Aug. 2: The Extra Innings summer baseball/softball clinic will be held from 9 a.m.-noon June 18-Aug. 2 for ages 12 and younger at the Extra Innings training facility, 717 Cattlemen Road, Sarasota. Emphasis will be on hitting, fielding, throwing, pitching and catching. Veteran instructors will lead the clinic in their areas of expertise. The cost is $99 for members, $129.99 for non-members. June 23-24: The first West Coast Tarpon Challenge to benefit All Children's Hospital will be held June 23-24. The mandatory captains meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. June 21 at Conley Buick GMC Subaru, 800 Cortez Road, Bradenton. There will be one division for all kayak entries and will be held June 23. There will be three divisions -- Youth, Junior and Open -- for the boat competition, which will be held June 24. The entry fee for the Open division is $150 before 5 p.m. June 11 and $180 after. The entry fee for the Junior division (ages 13-18) and Youth division (ages 12 and younger) will be $50 before 5 p.m. June 11 and $60 after. All participating anglers will receive a T-shirt and one dinner ticket for the weigh-in. Additional tickets are available for $10.
