Vasconcellos nets 5 goals for Braden River Pirates

Braden River High’s boys soccer team went on a scoring spree Tuesday that was led by Fabio Vasconcellos’ five goals in an 8-1 home victory over Port Charlotte.

Danny Lane added two goals and two assists, Tyler Marshall had a goal and an assist, Austin Myara had three assists, Paul Wagner added one assist, and Ivo Lima contributed an assist in the effort.

Goalie Eric Steltmann had six saves for the Pirates (3-0-1), who will play Monday in the Sarasota Thanksgiving Classic.

Palmetto 6, Bayshore 0 -- Javis Paniagua, Hunter Brown and Usiel Martinez each had two goals as the host Tigers beat the Bruins. Eliseo Gonzalez had two assists and Francisco Jimenez added another.

SAINT STEPHEN’S 8, OUT-0F-DOOR ACADEMY 0 -- Brett Messieh had a hat trick and two assists as the visiting Falcons shut out the Thunder.

Felippe Rezende added two goals and an assist to the offensive barrage. Also contributing to the offensive effort were Carlos Montero with a goal; freshman Andrew Zandomenego, who scored his first high school goal; and Matthew Jones with a goal and two assists. Sam Kuznicki, Cameron Tally and Sam Lynch added assists.

The Falcons (2-0) host St. Petersburg Northside Christian at 4 p.m. Thursday.

SARASOTA CHRISTIAN 4, BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 2 -- The host Panthers fell to 1-2 after losing to the Blazers. Calvin Morley and Sketch Pierc scored goals for the Panthers, and Peyton Spencer and Garrett Moshier added assists. The Panthers travel Friday to Cambridge.

LAKEWOOD RANCH 4, VENICE 2 -- The host Mustangs came back from 1-0 at the half to double up the score against the Indians.

Leading the offensive effort for the Mustangs (3-1, 3-0 district) were Jimmy Jamie with two goals and an assist, Joel Ferguson with a goal, Tyler Norris a goal, Jason Ferguson two assists, and Billy Lomberti an assist.

The Mustangs travel Thursday to Port Charlotte for a district match.

Girls soccer

BRADEN RIVER 2, PORT CHARLOTTE 0 -- Visiting Braden River won this battle of the Pirates with Carly Provan scoring both goals. Elizabeth Shirey and Olivia Bright added assists. Braden River (4-1-1) hosts Lakewood Ranch on Nov. 29.

SARASOTA CHRISTIAN 5, BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 3 -- Samantha Miller had two goals and the host Panthers showed improvement in defeat. Goalie Shelby Curtsinger had 15 saves in her first start for the Panthers, and Lea Fifiet and Laura Morley had strong defensive efforts.

MANTEE 3, SAINT STEPHEN’S 3 -- The host Hurricanes and Falcons battled to a draw in a see-saw battle. Saint Stephen’s, down 2-0, came back to take a 3-2 lead with Hannah Howell scoring all three goals and Michelle Benz adding an assist.

Clancy Vaughn, assisted by Sarah Kurutz, netted the Hurricanes’ first goal. Adding goals for the Canes (2-1-2) were Jessalyn Kinlaw and Michaela Krebser.

The Canes host Charlotte on Thursday. The Falcons (3-0-2) travel Thursday to St. Petersburg Northside Christian.

PALMETTO 4, BAYSHORE 1 -- Nikki Postma, Yasmine Montufar, Lilly Hermann and Brooke Cutchen each scored a goal to lift the Tigers over the Bruins. Faith Rouis had two assists, and Postma added an assist for Palmetto (3-2, 2-0).

Boys basketball

CARDINAL MOONEY 93, SARASOTA CHRISTIAN 59 -- Antonio Blakeney had 21 points, Jamie Glasser added 17 and Matt Hueston had 12 as the host Cougars won this preseason matchup. For the Blazers, Henry Ford had 18 points and Logan Mayer had 15.

Girls basketball

BAYSHORE 40, CARDINAL MOONEY 31 -- Brooklyn Spearinn led the host Bruins with 17 points in a season-opening victory over the Cougars.

Elyssa Alvarez added 12 points and Quinna Streeter-Thurman had 12 rebounds. Bayshore led the entire game and 17-11 at the half.
