Ed Orgeron's Contract, Salary Revealed For New LSU Job
Ed Orgeron must have really wanted to return to LSU and be an assistant for the team he once led to national title glory because he's not exactly squeezing the SEC powerhouse for every penny.
According to Amanda Christovich of Front Office Sports, Orgeron is joining the Tigers one an eight-month contract worth for $100,000. That's not $100,000 per month by the way. $100,000 total.
For context, Orgeron earned an average of $9 million per year from 2020 to 2021. The Tigers bought out his contract for around $17 million after parting ways with him at the end of the 2021 season. Christovich reported that the school only just finished paying off that buyout at the end of last year.
But while the memories may still be fresh, LSU is a far cry from the team that Coach O won a title with in 2019.
After parting ways with Orgeron after the 2021 season, LSU hired Brian Kelly and had a few years years of decent but hardly special football before everything collapsed in 2025. Things got so bad that fans were about ready to beg the team to rehire Orgeron, until the Tigers athletic department managed to poach Lane Kiffin from SEC rival Ole Miss.
There clearly weren't enough sour grapes between the two sides to keep the school from bringing him back.
Coach O and Lane
Orgeron worked alongside LSU's current head coach Lane Kiffin in several different stints, most notably at USC. He worked alongside Kiffin under Pete Carroll in the early 2000s and was later hired at Kiffin's defensive coordinator at USC when he took the job in 2010.
Coach O will now serve as a special assistant to the defense and recruiting for the 2026 season. His plans for 2027 appear to be up in the air.
Now the two are reunited in Baton Rouge and hope to enjoy even more success together in 2026 and beyond.
