Yari, Lopez lift Daytona over Tampa 7-6

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Bruce Yari doubled and singled twice, scoring two runs as the Daytona Tortugas topped the Tampa Tarpons 7-6 on Saturday.

Alejo Lopez doubled and singled twice for Daytona.

Daytona took the lead in the first when Stuart Fairchild hit an RBI single and then scored with A. Lopez and Andy Sugilio on an error.

After the teams traded runs, the Tarpons cut into the deficit in the fourth inning when Jason Lopez hit a two-run home run.

The Tortugas extended their lead in the seventh when Jonathan India hit a two-run home run.

Tampa saw its comeback attempt come up short after Matt Pita and Oswaldo Cabrera scored on wild pitches in the eighth to cut the Daytona lead to 7-6.

Daytona starter Michael Byrne (1-1) picked up the win despite allowing three runs and six hits over five innings. Opposing starter Miguel Yajure (0-2) took the loss in the Florida State League game after giving up five runs and nine hits over six innings.

Daytona hit a season-high four doubles in its victory.

For the Tarpons, J. Lopez homered and doubled, scoring a pair of runs while also driving home a couple. Steven Sensley homered and singled, scoring two runs.
