The establishment Republicans are hoping the American public will come to their senses about their candidate for president. We need a seasoned hand with true governance ability rather than an outsider that has neither the experience nor the temperament to be our president.
Voters respond to let's build a wall or bomb the "hell out of ISIS" with cheers. While that might sound interesting, it is bombast we really can't afford. We don't need a reality star with a narcissistic Napoleon complex to be our POTUS. We certainly don't need candidates to entertain us.
There are real candidates with experience/thoughtful ideas that are running on both sides. They might not be as fun or outrageous, but they would make much better representatives for us in Washington, especially in the POTUS position.
I hold the media partly responsible for this dilemma. It is much more fun to give sound bites from someone who is a verbal bully than a quiet, thoughtful candidate. Candidates are not given equal coverage/time. Trump knows this. He doesn't need a war chest. He only needs his mouth to say something outrageous and all the media fall at his feet.
We have real issues in this country that call for real thoughtfulness in our answers.
Most voters don't really care about learning either their candidates or the issues. But not learning leaves us with a problem. You may be indifferent to who is running for other offices, but those elected affect our country in profound ways.
Thomas Jefferson was correct in saying for democracy to work, we need an informed electorate.
We need voters who take time to know the issues facing America. Let's know our candidates, their thoughts on issues we have to solve, and vote for a candidate that will keep us a great America.
