I am appalled that at the last meeting of the Manatee County commissioners, they all, with the exception of Robin DiSabatino, voted to re-consider the application to re-zone Palmview Golf Course so Highland Homes can build a housing development there.
The commissioners already voted on this matter and denied the application on Aug. 6. This decision to re-consider their previous decision makes no sense at all, and makes me question their instincts and decision-making ability to make a fair decision and to stand by that decision. Doesn't their previous decision mean anything? No! ... means No!
If an applicant doesn't like the commission's decision, can he merely bring it up in front of the commissioners a second time hoping they will change their mind? And, if they do change their mind and vote yes, can the people who are opposed then bring it up again for their re-consideration?
I am especially disgusted with Commissioner Charles Smith. This is in his district! And his constituents clearly are opposed to this development. He wasn't even in attendance when this important, hot issue was first voted. He now claims he doesn't know enough about it, which is why he voted to re-consider it. Maybe he should have watched the video, like I did.
