Killing Padi is a senseless and cruel way to punish a dog for following his natural instincts of self-preservation. How many dogs and even cats would've reacted the same way to a similar situation? One can only guess.
The ones being punished are Padi's owners and dog owners everywhere. Not much to understand about what happens when an animal is provoked.
Padi's owner, a veterinarian, is an animal professional who knows Padi -- not the babysitter or 4-year-old. The babysitter is as much to blame as anyone for allowing a 4-year-old to provoke Padi.
Did the sitter even know where her charge was or what that the 4-year-old was antagonizing an animal who was seeking a safe place under his owner's desk? Padi was not the aggressor, he was the victim.
If this dog is not released, I suspect that he is once again a victim, this time of pressure and politics. And that really sucks. Don't we have enough of that already?
