I was very glad to see Jim Robinson's June 24 letter in the Herald regarding the brutal death of little 4-year-old Alexander Marr. I, too, have wondered how so much could be made month after month of Manatee County residents wanting to take care of animals and so much media coverage of same when so little coverage or caring is being shown for our abused, neglected and murdered children. Where is the outcry for them?
I'm a retiree from Children and Family Services out of the State of Oregon so I know what I'm talking about when I say that little boy never should have died. Someone should have saved him.
His grandmother had to have known what was going on. Yes, she was charged with failure to report and is out on a $1,500 bond. But what kind of a grandmother would let someone beat on that poor little boy?
What kind of a mother, for that matter, would leave her child with a boyfriend whom she had to know was hitting him?

Where is your outrage about this little boy and other children who you might know are being abused or mistreated? Maybe you could volunteer at an agency that serves children instead of animals?
In weighing what's more important, I vote for the children.
