So, no property tax rate change for Manatee County? Great news and cause for celebration, right?
Wrong. As anyone with half a brain knows, the property tax is based on two factors: 1. the tax (millage) rate and 2. the assessed value of the property.
In this case (if the rate isn't changing), the assessed value of your property is (which they think will make everyone happy -- "Hey, my house is appreciating, I'll make more money when I sell!"), and will be increasing significantly.
Net result? Everyone will be writing a bigger check this November when property taxes are due. Typical government smoke and mirrors.
