June 11, 2015 was the day for the national movement "Just One Day." For one day, shelters are asked to put down syringes full of euthanasia solution and pick up a leash.
Shelters are asked to not kill any animals for "Just One Day."
Anna Cooke and The New Barker dog magazine set out to make a difference for that day. The New Barker reached out to shelters throughout the Tampa Bay area and arranged a partnership with the Morgan Auto Group to host these shelters and their dogs on June 11.
This offer was made to all shelters in Manatee and Sarasota counties. Manatee County Animal Services (the only local shelter to commit to the event) along with Moonracer No Kill Animal Rescue Inc. set up in the showroom of BMW Sarasota and showcased their adoptable dogs starting at 11 a.m.
The day was a success. Manatee County Animal Services adopted out a dog at the event and has a possible adoption.
Moonracer was able to pull two dogs from the Kill List and one dog was fostered through the Manatee County Animal Services foster program that has been implemented by Sam Wolfe, the volunteer coordinator.
While they may not be able to save them all, they did save them for "Just One Day." For this, I thank all who were involved today!
