Don't tax current residents for new development costs

Manatee County development out of control!

We learn from the Herald that Manatee County plans to increase wastewater service fees to cover the cost of connecting services to new homes.

We firmly think that the cost of hookup for new homes should be born by the developers, not residents. All developers should be charged a flat fee based on square footage of any new homes approved within the development.

This fee should include all costs related to water sewerage, schools, police and fire.

It is the developers who are getting the largest profits from our inordinate population expansion. It is the developers who are getting the largest profits from our inordinate population expansion!

It is the developers who should bear the costs related to this, which they can pass on to buyers of the land.

Residents must oppose any individual tax increases resulting from new development within the county. If the elected refuse to protect existing residents from new charges due to new development, they should be voted out of office.
