I have been following the Bradenton Beach mayoral recall campaign for several months, but it was not until I read an article published in the Herald last week that I fully understood what the real issues are.
Apparently, the current mayor is trying to run on a record of progress over the past few years. However, in his quest for progress, Mayor Bill "Belichik" Shearon has disturbed the status quo and people within the city government have been forced out of their comfort zones by the mayor's quest for change.
As a result, there is much unhappiness as well as low morale.
Candidate "Lovie Smith" Jack Clarke wants to replace the current mayor and is doing so by running on the platform he can improve people's morale.
If Clarke wins, the disturbing portrait of Bradenton Beach as a vibrant, progressive community can be restored to the comforting and idyllic Norman Rockwell-like still portrait of yesteryear that everyone loves.
As a bonus, the people in city government can crawl back into their safe, little comfort zones and everyone will be so happy.
