Every year it's the same ol' gridlock getting on and off the islands. All roads are four lanes going into two lanes on the islands.
It's like pouring a truckload of sand down a manhole. Now, I am no county commissioner but I know what to do:
Put up a four-story parking garage about where Galati Marine used to be on Manatee Avenue.
Put up a four-story parking garage on Cortez at Cortez
Put up a four-story parking garage at St. Armands Circle.
Tourist tax would pay for them in both counties, plus charge $2 or $5 per car to park.
Only people who live and work on the islands could drive on them. Put a sticker on those cars and they could automatically be read to raise and lower the gates on the bridges.
Have free shuttles to run every 12 minutes, maybe six or eight of them to take you anywhere on the two islands form the Rod and Reel Pier to St. Armands Circle or back to your garage. Anywhere on the islands for free.
If this is not done, look for gridlock every year.
