East Bradenton/Manatee County residents should be aware of and note with interest a 160-unit new home development being proposed just off of SR-70/53rd Avenue and 37th Street East. That's in county Commissioners' Robin DiSabatino's district.
The increase in traffic for this development will affect communities such as Garden Lakes, Garden Lakes Estates, Lions Head, Regal Oaks, Cascades, Barrington Ridge and Rio Mar.
Streets, such as 37th and 39th Streets East, are two-lane roads which already carry a lot of traffic to and from SR-70/53rd Avenue East and the new Tuttle extension.
School buses currently stop at the entrances to most of these communities to pick up and deliver schoolchildren.
These additional proposed homes will increase traffic and make it less safe for the children and school bus drivers alike.
Another large concern is where the rain water runoff will be released to prevent back flooding of the Peace Canal as well as the areas leading to the Braden River.
Pump stations for waste sewage disposal is a concern.
One can only hope that the county commissioners and Planning Commission personnel will consider these matters as plans are presented to them.
Growth is good, but only in areas that may accommodate it.
