The past few weeks I have read several letters complaining about growth and development in this county and why the county commissioners have been approving such.
I keep a close eye on three of the seven commissioners. These are the only ones that I am able to vote for or against.
Betsy Benac had worked for a developer before she was elected commissioner. Anyone who voted for her who was against development should have done their homework and known that fact and that she would be pro-growth.
Carol Whitmore was not on that pro-growth bandwagon the first few years but in the past few years has been on board big time. Again, if you follow the voting of the commissioners you should have been aware of that fact.
Larry Bustle, whose district I live in, has never met a developer that he has not fallen in love with.
These three are all pro-growth and will always support the developer. Since there are seven commissioners, it only takes one of the remaining four to seal any development deal.
The commissioners are interested in two things:
1. The tax money they will collect through construction of new homes and businesses. (Remember, the more of your money a politician gets, the more he/she will spend.)
2. Getting re-elected and financial donations from developers helps.
As for the developers, they are interested in only one thing: profit. They do not care about how much traffic and congestion they create, and it seems that absolutely no one is interested in where the water will come from to support any new development.
The problem is, no one really cares about or even talks about this fact.
