Term limits to U.S. House, Senate key to halting woes

We elect men and women to work for us. To go to City Hall, the state capital and to Washington to take care of our business. We do this because we are busy making a living and raising families.

It's great that people want to serve, but many of these people have been in positions too long and are being influenced by big money, lobbyists and ideology. We have term limits for the president, and I believe we should have term limits for all elected officials.

Serving in a political office was never intended to be a career. People who wanted to serve their country went for a few years and then it was time for someone else to serve.

It is dangerous because government is running the people now instead of the other way around. The voters must change this or the corruption, as well as the excessive cost that goes with big government, will continue.

There is no reason a congressman can't get work done in six years (that is three terms) and a senator should stay no longer than 12 years (that is two terms). Allow them to serve and thank them for their service.

Less time in office is less time for temptation by wrongdoers. Elected officials will not put limits on themselves, so it is up to voters to bring them home when their time is up.
