Does Manatee County school district need impact fees atop sales tax?

    ORDER REPRINT →

February 08, 2015 12:00 AM

Manatee County Administrator Ed Hunzeker's guest column in the Jan. 31 Herald once again reveals another apparent attempt to hoodwink "we the people."

In his column he neglects to reveal that the school district is embarking on their own long-term assessment study of needs. He neglects to reveal that "we the people" passed a 15-year half-cent sales tax for capital funding of our schools in 2002 that has put and will continue to put hundreds of millions of dollars into the school district coffers.

He neglects to reveal that an audit of those funds has been done, but not revealed to "we the people."

His last sentence says it all: "Now is the time to reevaluate our impact fees and resume collecting them for schools." Thus, we know the outcome of your study regarding the school fee.

However, wait until the school district tells you the results of their needs analysis. Mr. Hunzeker, this one is too transparent for you to attempt another hoodwink of "we the people."

It might be wise for you to stay focused on the impending health care crisis that's happening on your watch.
