As we quickly near the end of the year, I wanted to take a minute to publicly thank Gov. Rick Scott for his outstanding support for Florida's cancer programs throughout his first term as governor.
I have been a volunteer with the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) for over 11 years and am so proud of what we accomplished in Florida in 2014. My voice is one in thousand committed to educating our elected officials on crucial legislation that impacts the lives of those battling cancer.
It's critical that they understand the importance of funding for Florida's two biomedical research programs (King Biomedical and the Bankhead Coley Research Program) and the Mary Brogan Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program, which provides lifesaving cancer screenings for uninsured or underinsured women.
Gov. Scott and the 2014 Florida Legislature committed over $180 million to cancer-related issues and I applaud their efforts to keep cancer front and center during the fast approaching legislative session.
We are very lucky to have Rep. Jim Boyd, Rep. Greg Steube, Rep. Ray Pilon, Sen. Bill Galvano and Sen. Nancy Detert in our area as they care so much.
Thank you and keep up the good work.
