Authorities, schools react well in wake of slayings

We would like to thank the local police and school officials for the swift response to last week's tragic shooting by locking down four area schools. We have grandsons in three of these schools, and we were very appreciative that our children were priority in safety.
Each of our grandsons had a different experience with lock down and this gave us an opportunity to discuss safety in our community and schools. The principals of the middle school and elementary school kept us informed of the status of the lock down as it happened.
We also had extra security from the multiple police vehicles and helicopters as news media and bystanders surrounded our neighborhood after two deaths were found a block from our home.
This tragedy has made us realize how lucky we are with family, friends and a community that pulls together. We are proud of our schoolchildren, who have sent prayers to their classmates involved in this tragedy.
