Politicians and excessive stretches off the truth

With political season in full swing, I feel it is time to bring up a punch line from an old TV show. A youth, possibly a teenager, had the following line: "If George Washington never told a lie, how did he get so far in politics?"

Presently, they are not altogether lies but an excessive stretch of the truth. If it fits, accept it; otherwise, view it as what it is.
