Back in July I took a trip to the Florida Keys. When I got to the Miami area I was surprised to learn that the Florida turnpike no longer had toll booths.
They had converted to the new "peopleless" tollbooths with cameras to photograph your license plate and then bill you for the toll. I just got my invoice from Toll By Plate.
The toll was what I expected -- $1.28 two times for a total of $2.56.
What I am upset about is the $2.50 administrative fee that I was charged. I'm not very good at math but that looks to be nearly equal to my toll.
One must wonder about out-of-state guests who travel the Florida turnpike and their reaction when they get these little love notices in the mail with exorbitant administrative fees.
Plus, the address on the invoice I received is for an Atlanta post office box. So, not only are we fleecing the citizens of Florida, we are allowing a company in Georgia to profit from it.
