Herald sports writer Alan Dell has the right idea about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers trying to get Michael Vick to come to the Bucs (Jan. 8 column, "Why not Vick for Bucs' QB?"). I said it when he first came back into football after his jail time.
He was blacklisted by almost all the teams because of the nature of his crime. Dog lovers hated him. Philadelphia Eagles Coach Andy Reid was the only one who gave him a chance.
Vick is not only a good quarterback but he could play running back, that's how fast he is. Do you think the 49ers would have beaten Green Bay if Colin Kaepernick hadn't broken out of the pocket and run for the first downs? He is a double threat and defenses aren't sure how to defend him. Vick is even a better runner than Kaepernick.
If I was going to coach, I would get two good quarterbacks, a scrambler like Vick and a good pocket quarterback and rotate them in the game like they do with running backs. Would that blow the defense away or what?
The Bucs should try for Vick.
They might also try and get Tim Tebow as a backup. He is a good, if not great, quarterback! He was not given the time to make the transition from college to professional football.
