Concerning gun laws in Manatee County or another county: If a law-abiding citizen has a concealed carry permit issued by the state of Florida, he or she can carry anywhere except in a bar, sporting event, government building, or a public school.
You can pass a law in our community for anything you want, but we legally do not have to follow it, other than the ones in place now. A grocery store can put up a sign that reads “No Guns Allowed,” but we legally do not have to adhere to it and the same goes for a restaurant or shopping mall. Anyway, I have always believed that I would rather be tried by 12 than buried by six.
Another thing, we have to expect and rely on our county sheriff to protect us from far-reaching unconstitutional laws created by the city, county and state. The county sheriff has the power to stop any law that is unconstitutional, period.
We elect the sheriff and he is expected to follow the Constitution and tell the council, commissioners and state regulators where to get off. He has more power than any of them.
