“Repeal the 20th century. Vote Tea Party/Republican.” -- A bumper sticker coming to a neighborhood near you. But wait a moment. Due to the tea party/Republican brain trust now occupying Tallahassee, many of us may not be able to vote due to their underhanded but flagrant changes to voting rules that have been in effect.
A letter writer stated that tea party members are “patriots.” To think you’re the only ones who are patriots and love this country is only narrow minded and arrogant.
When this grassroots organization got rolling, I thought they just might have something there. But then I saw and heard things that were disturbing. Guys wearing sidearms or carrying rifles to rallies. As someone who has heard “the shot fired in anger,” anyone who displays a firearm in such a manner is only trying to compensate for a defect in their manhood.
In some respects I share some of their ideals, many I don’t. But the manner in which they put them forth has only turned me off.
Further, I can’t see how they’re a grassroots group any longer, being co-opted by people such as the Koch brothers and the current crop of clowns in Congress. If they truly understood the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, they’d know that both documents were a result of compromise, not this current gridlock and “my way or the highway.”
Then there’s the last three debates where people cheered over executions and letting a person die and booed an American soldier. It was ugly and ignorant. Were they serving booze at these debates, as they sounded like a drunken lynch mob.
