Three new major polls of likely voters show a virtual dead heat between Republican Gov. Rick Scott and Democrat Charlie Crist. One scored a tie at 36 percent apiece, another gave Scott the nod 46-44 percent, and the third found Crist ahead 43-40 percent. The latter two are both within each survey's margin of error, indicating a neck-and-neck race.
If neither candidate wins by more than half a percentage point, Florida will be stuck with a recount. Yikes. Shades of the 2000 presidential election and the excruciating five-week recount that eventually went to George Bush and propelled him into the White House.
We can only hope the Sunshine state is not caught in another recount nightmare.
