Mary GrandPre's Bradenton blues fest poster is a gem

The Bradenton Blues Festival now boasts an impressive piece of art to promote December's big Riverwalk event. Celebrated "Harry Potter" book illustrator Mary GrandPre created a masterful poster of a blue guitarist flanked by her trademark geometric shapes and road images.

Kudos to the Sarasota artist for donating such an instantly iconic poster to one of Realize Bradenton's breakout events for Riverwalk's grand opening celebration.

Promotional posters of all manner of live performances often rank as high art. Dating back to Shakespeare's day, many concert, film and theater posters today grace fine museums. Toulouse-Lautrec created one of the most famous, "Moulin Rouge -- La Goulue," in 1891.

GrandPre posters can be had for $50. The money supports Realize Bradenton youth and music programs. Email johnette@RealizeBradenton.com for details.

Advance tickets to the Dec. 1 blues fest are $25. Visit www.bradentonbluesfestival.org or call 941-681-0708.
