FPL crews leave Manatee for northeast U.S.

MANATEE -- About 20 Florida Power and Light workers departed Manatee County for the northeast United States on Monday morning to help restore power in areas hit by Hurricane Sandy.

The workers and 10 trucks from Sarasota gathered in the parking lot of the Ellenton Ice & Sports Complex about 7:30 a.m. before departing.

In all, FPL is deploying more than 560 employees and contractor restoration workers to Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C., to assist with restoration efforts, according to the company.
