Beer on the road: Rig overturns, shattering 55,000 pounds of bottled brew on Florida highway

A tractor-trailer hauling 55,000 pounds of bottled beer overturned Monday and dumped its load on Interstate 95 in Volusia County.

WKMG reports that bottles of Heineken and Amstel Light shattered in the northbound lanes the highway, causing a shutdown at 4 a.m. It took crews about seven hours to clear the broken glass and brew.

"Cleaning up beer, it's kind of really smelly, you know what I mean?" worker Twain Williams told the TV station.

According to the report, the beer truck driver, 46-year-old Marcos Martinez, of Miami, said a tractor-trailer swerved in front of him, making him lose control. Troopers said there were no skid marks on the road and that charges are pending.
