SARASOTA -- Motorists driving on Honore Road between University Parkway and Longmeadow will now have to slow down a little.
Sarasota County Commissioners unanimously approved reducing the speed by 5 miles per hour to 40 miles per hour at its Wednesday meeting.
"It is just common sense that with the mall opening and Christmas coming and people discovering this as one of the ways to get to the mall and rowing, the traffic is going to be there," Commissioner Nora Patterson said. "Forty is not unreasonable."
Also during Wednesday's meeting, the commissioners unanimously approved lifting the county's ban on the sale of alcoholic beverages before noon on Sundays.

Wednesday's meeting was the last commission meeting for Patterson and Commissioner Joe Barbetta because of term limits. On Tuesday, Sarasota City Commissioner Paul Caragiulo, a Republican, was elected to fill Barbetta's District 2 seat and Republican Alan Maio was elected to fill Patterson's District 4 seat.
