Opponent touts ethics complaints filed against Manatee Commissioner Larry Bustle

BRADENTON -- Two ethics complaints have been filed with the Florida Ethics Commission against incumbent Manatee County Commissioner Larry Bustle, according to Corie Holmes, Bustle's opponent in the District 1 county commission race.

Holmes, who is a Democrat, said one complaint filed against his Republican opponent involved allegation of unreported income Bustle had received through real estate sales.

“I have to say that it really is nothing but a coordinated political attack, and spurious charges that have no basis whatsoever,” Bustle said Friday night.

A second complaint alleged county employees had aided Bustle in his re-election campaign, Holmes said.

"These actions are clearly in violation of Florida statutes," Holmes, who is a former sheriff's deputy, said during a press conference Friday in the lobby at the Manatee County Administrative Center in downtown Bradenton.

Holmes said he did not know those who filed the complaints, listed as Perselphone E. Johnson, and Kelmie Bigelow, on copies of the complaints that Holmes showed to reporters.
