BRADENTON — A man was charged with whacking a victim with an umbrella because after a drug deal went awry, according to the Bradenton Police Department.
Kevin Francis Gorman, 52, was arrested at 5:33 p.m. Monday in the 600 block of 11st Street West, Bradenton. Gorman reportedly gave an unidentified man money to buy drugs but the man never returned and when Gorman saw a female rolling her own cigarettes, police said he assumed she was involved in ripping him off.
Gorman took the victim’s umbrella and whacked her in the back several times, causing red marks and breaking the handle, police reported. According to a report, he then poured a beer on her and threw the can at her.
Two witnesses and a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputy witnessed the attack. Gorman admitted to pouring beer over the victim, but denied hitting her with an umbrella.
Gorman was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and was held in Manatee County jail without bond, according to the sheriff’s office website.
