SARASOTA -- A Sarasota driver and two passengers suffered serious injuries in a two-vehicle collision at 10:55 a.m. Friday at Shade Avenue and Desoto Road in Sarasota, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
A 2008 Toyota Prius was stopped northbound at the stop sign on Shade Avenue at Desoto Road and a 2006 International 4700 truck was westbound on Desoto Road approaching Shade when the 65-year-old Prius driver pulled into the path of the truck. The collision caused the Prius to spin off the road into a ditch after colliding with a Sarasota County Area Transit sign.
The 50-year-old male truck driver from Sarasota and 42- and 43-year-old male passengers from Bradenton were uninjured.
A 25-year-old male passenger from Venice, 23-year-old female passenger from Sarasota and 65-year-old Cherly Batavia were taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, according to FHP.

Alcohol was not suspected a a factor in the accident.
Batavia will be charged with violation from right of way from a stop sign, according to FHP.
