SARASOTA — An accidental spear gun shooting about 2 p.m. Saturday near the Sarasota Yacht Club has sent one diver to the hospital.
According to the Sarasota Police Department, two male divers in their 20s were spear fishing under the Twin Bridge linking downtown Sarasota with St. Armands when one of the divers inadvertently shot the other.
Numerous police officers, fire and rescue units and emergency medical personnel responded. One diver was transported to a hospital intensive care unit with life-threatening injuries in what police spokeswoman Genevieve Judge characterized as “very serious condition.”
Names are being withheld pending notification of the families.
