Argument over ditched car leads to six felony charges for Manatee County man

MANATEE -- A 21-year-old suspect was charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, possession of a firearm by a felon, carrying a concealed weapon and served with three felony warrants after an incident at 6:10 p.m. Thursday in the 700 block of 28th Avenue East, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Devonte T. Mitchel pointed a gun in a 21-year-old male victim's face, pistol-whipped him and accused him of being a law officer during an argument, according to the report. The victim was upset Mitchell drove his car into a ditch, according to the report.

The victim ran, called 911 and met authorities in the 2200 block of Ninth Street East. Mitchell was quickly located and a firearm was reportedly found in his back pocket.
