BRADENTON -- Police arrested a man and charged him with driving under the influence after he struck a patrol car head on that was carrying an officer and an arrestee early Monday, according to the Bradenton Police Department.
An officer was heading north on Eighth Avenue West near the intersection with 10th Street West in Palmetto to take Erwin Barnes to the Manatee County jail at 2:11 a.m. when another vehicle heading south on Eighth Avenue West started turning left onto 10th Street West, according to a release. The other vehicle struck the patrol car head on.
The driver of the vehicle, Miguel Gonzalez, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license with knowledge, police said. He was also cited for failing to yield.
The officer was transported to Manatee Memorial Hospital with neck pain, but was cleared and released after an x-ray showed no injuries, according to a release.
Gonzalez and Barnes were also taken to the hospital for medical clearance and no serious injuries were listed. Barnes was originally arrested on charges of domestic battery and marijuana possession.
