Sarasota cyclist, 45, killed after being struck by car driven by 89-year-old man

SARASOTA -- A 45-year-old Sarasota man riding a bicycle was struck and killed by a 2010 Acura driven by 89-year-old Dennis Mulshaw of Sarasota at 7 p.m. Friday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The cyclist was pedaling in the bike lane northbound on North Lockwood Ridge Road when the Acura struck from the rear, according to FHP.

The bicyclist was thrown to the ground and taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, according to FHP. He died of his injuries. Identification is being withheld pending notification of his family.

It's not known whether alcohol was a factor in the accident, FHP reported. Charges are pending results of the investigation, according to FHP.
