Bradenton company pleads guilty to health care fraud

BRADENTON -- A Bradenton company has pleaded guilty to health care fraud amounting to $1.5 million, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

Suncoast Brace & Limb Inc., which was located at 1878 59th St. W. in Bradenton, was charged with scheming to defraud the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services through a pattern of submitting fraudulent claims for prosthetic devices. SCBL would submit reimbursement claims between July 2009 and March 2012 for prosthetics to Medicare and Medicaid that were unnecessary, duplicative or not compatible with patients' needs.

SCBL collected nearly $1.5 million through this practice, and under a plea deal they will have to pay restitution for that amount plus a maximum fine of $500,000.

The office was raided in September 2012, according to Bradenton Herald archives. Agencies on scene included the FBI, the Florida Attorney General's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Office of the Inspector General.
