Manatee sheriff: Suspects toss brick of marijuana from speeding car, flee from deputies

MANATEE -- Deputies arrested three men Thursday night on charges of driving nearly double the speed limit in a 60 mile per hour zone and fleeing law enforcement, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

A deputy observed a car was going 113 miles per hour in a 60 mile per hour zone at 9:25 p.m. Thursday, according to a release.

The deputy tried to initiate a traffic stop, and the vehicle initially slowed down. The deputy said he saw what he suspected was a brick of marijuana being thrown from the car, before the vehicle began to speed away.

The car eventually stopped in the 12000 block of State Road 62 and the occupants got out and ran away on foot, according to a release. All three were tracked and located by deputy canines.

Benny Mobley Jr., 28, Jamari Williams, 23, and Dante Dasher, 28, were all arrested. Mobley, the driver, was charged with fleeing from law enforcement at high speeds, reckless driving and loitering, and is being held at the Manatee County jail on $7,740 bond. Williams was charged with loitering and is being held on $120 bond. Dasher was charged with burglary to an unoccupied structure and is being held on $1,500 bond.
