Troopers: Driver flees in Manatee after pulling into oncoming traffic, causing collision

MANATEE -- A driver pulled in front of another vehicle who had the right of way Wednesday night, causing a collision and fleeing the scene, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

A vehicle described as a dark grey Ford work van with tinted windows was stopped at a stop sign on 55th Avenue East, just west of the intersection with U.S. 41, at 9:33 p.m., according to a release.

A 24-year-old driver in a 1995 Toyota Tercel was heading southbound approaching 55th Avenue East when the van turned into his path, causing the Tercel's front to collide with the van's left side, troopers said.

The driver of the van didn't stop, instead continuing northbound on U.S. 41., according to a release. The driver of the Tercel suffered minor injuries.

Anyone with information on the driver is asked to call FHP at 239-938-1800.
