Sarasota woman charged with felony burglary

SARASOTA -- A Sarasota woman has been charged with felony burglary after she was identified on video, according to the Sarasota Police Department.

Amanda L. Branchfield, 34, is charged with felony burglary of an unoccupied structure unarmed. Police had been looking to identify the woman caught on video stealing paintball equipment from a home.

At 1:30 p.m. May 21, a woman rode a bicycle up to the home in the 200 block of South Shade Avenue in Sarasota and knocked on the door, according to a release. No one answered, and the woman left.

Police said the woman returned at 10 p.m. that night and took a box of paintball equipment.

"This case was solved thanks to the use of the Sarasota Police Department social media and our media partners," Sarasota police spokeswoman Genevieve Judge wrote Wednesday in an email. "Thank you for sharing the video!"

Branchfield was being held in Sarasota County jail on $1,500 bond, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office website.
