MANATEE -- A 29-year-old man led Manatee County deputies on a high-speed chase from Bradenton to Sarasota beginning at 5:10 p.m. Thursday at the Circle K, 900 30th Ave. E. before coming to a crashing end into a cement mailbox.

Deputy J. Kruse drove into a parking lot to investigate a suspected stolen vehicle and it fled at a high rate of speed. It was verified the vehicle was stolen and a pursuit ensued eastbound on State Road 64 at high speeds.

Stop sticks were deployed at 6000 S.R. 64 flattening one tire. The suspect entered Interstate 75 and continued south with a flat tire to Fruitville Road in Sarasota where more stop sticks were deployed flattening another front tire.

The suspect continued west to Tuttle Avenue where he turned north into oncoming traffic. It was decided to force the suspect to stop.

Deputy C. Thames came alongside the suspect's vehicle, which rammed him, according to the report. Thames got in front of the suspect and was again rammed. Both vehicles veered off the roadway where the suspect struck a concrete mailbox disabling the stolen vehicle at 2200 Tuttle Ave.

The suspect ran but was apprehended quickly.

William McKnight complained of chest pains and was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital before being taken to jail.

No one was injured during the pursuit.
