Manatee women charged with DUI after running into deputy's vehicle

MANATEE — A woman was arrested after she crashed into the back of a deputy’s vehicle while driving under the influence at 10:06 p.m. Friday, according to the Manatee Sheriff’s Office.

The deputy was stopped in the center southbound lane of U.S. 41 at the intersection of Cortez Road West when Brenda Pope, 51, failed to stop and hit the vehicle from behind, according to the news release. Pope’s car hit the back bumper of the sheriff’s car but caused no damage.

Pope failed a field sobriety test, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, according to the report. No injuries were reported.

Pope was later found with marijuana and two Oxycodone pills and charged with possession charges.

Pope was at the Manatee County jail on bonds totaling $3510.
