Manatee sheriff: Robber flees after 64-year-old woman charges at him

MANATEE -- A masked would-be robber ran away when a 64-year-old woman charged at him in her kitchen on Friday morning, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

The woman was in her kitchen in the Cortez Paradise Bay Motel in the 4400 block of 102nd Street West at 10:42 a.m. when a man wearing a ski mask walked in, according to a release.

She asked him what he was doing, and he demanded money from her as he started opening cabinet doors and looking for things, deputies said.

She charged at the man and attempted to grab his mask, but missed and slammed a cabinet door shut instead, according to a release.

The man ran outside and tried to get into the woman's vehicle, but it was locked, deputies said. He got into a red Chevy 1500 pickup and drove away.

Deputies did not find the man and there were no injuries.
