SARASOTA -- Two students were arrested and one was Tasered after a fight that broke out on the Sarasota High School campus, according to the Sarasota Police Department.
On Wednesday, Sarasota High School's campus security requested assistance from School Resource Officer Sheldon Cantrell after a fight broke out in the East Café on campus, according to a police news release.
When Cantrell arrived, there were two students fighting on the ground as a security guard worked to separate them and pull the other guard out who was stuck underneath the brawl.
As Cantrell tried to help, a second fight broke out between a 16-year-old student and 18-year-old Pedro Alarcon, the release said. The 16-year-old ran up to Alarcon and punched him and the two exchanged blows as security tried to pull them apart.

The 16-year-old student involved attempted to run away so Cantrell deployed his Taser, but it hit the stu
dent's backpack making it ineffective. Cantrell was then able to tackle the student to the ground and security guards were able to hold him down.
Meanwhile, Alarcon was resisting the other security guard trying to keep him from the 16-year-old student. As Cantrell attempted to assist, Alarcon was physically resisting, screaming obscenities and refusing his commands to stop fighting and put his hands behind his back.
Cantrell gained control of Alarcon by drive stunning him with the Taser on the left side of his lower back, the release said.
The 16-year-old student was arrested and charged with battery. Alarcon was arrested and charged with resisting without violence. Both were taken to the Sarasota County jail.
All the other students involved were escorted to the administrative office, and the two students who initially had started fighting will face disciplinary action.
