Gunshot triggers pursuit of stolen car by Manatee deputies

MANATEE -- A lone gunshot at 4:01 p.m. Thursday led the Manatee County Sheriff's Office to a stolen vehicle and an arrest.

After hearing gunfire in the area of Second Avenue East and 17th Street East, deputies targeted a gray Chevy, which was reported stolen out of Sarasota.

Deputies converged on the car as it headed west on 10th Street West. The vehicle avoided stop sticks as deputies activated lights and siren.

Traffic was light and speeds did not exceed 60 mph, according to the report. The vehicle lost pursuit briefly but residents told deputies it turned right on 12th Street West.

Deputies converged as the vehicle sped westbound and tried to turn left onto Eighth Avenue but crashed into a lift station on the west shoulder.

Deputies arrested Nathaniel Milam, 17. A search revealed a magazine for a firearm in his pocket but no firearm was found, according to the report
