BRADENTON -- A Bradenton woman celebrated her 100th birthday Saturday.
Shirley Dorrance celebrated with balloons and cake while surrounded by her family and friends at the Woodlands Village Senior Living Community in Bradenton.
“It’s unbelievable, unbelievable," said Dorrance. "I can’t believe I’m celebrating it.”
Dorrance has had quite the life. She married her high-school sweetheart, Roderick Dorrance, and traveled with her husband before he died in 2001.
“When my husband was here we traveled a lot but we never went to Europe. He didn’t want to go there,” said Dorrance. “We went to Mexico, Hawaii and Canada and I enjoyed every minute of it."
Dorrance said she has slowed down a bit but she’s still using her sense of humor about turning 100 to keep the laughter going in her community.
“Well I wouldn’t want to do it all over again,” said Dorrance. “I’m sure I would make a lot more mistakes.”
Her advice to others is to do the best you can, and love most people you meet.
