LEE COUNTY -- A 10-year-old Tampa boy was killed when thrown from a vehicle involved in a one-vehicle traffic accident at 11:35 a.m. Sunday on Interstate 75 near mile marker 127 in Lee County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Two adults are also in serious condition at Lee Memorial Hospital, FHP reports.
A 55-year-old Tampa man was driving a 2004 Chevy Trailblazer with a 44-year-old Tampa woman and 10-year-old Robert Lopez as passengers, according to FHP.
The vehicle blew a tire and the driver lost control of the vehicle and traveled onto the median before sliding into the shoulder andoverturning several times.
The child was transported to Lee Memorial and later died at the hospital as a result of his injuries. I-75 southbound, inside and center lanes were closed about two hours for the investigation.
No charges have been filed pending results of the investigation. FHP reported alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
