SARASOTA -- A pedestrian was killed Thursday night when he or she tried to improperly cross a dark Sarasota road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The 59-year-old pedestrian was at the intersection of Myrtle Street East and Goodrich Avenue waiting to cross Myrtle Street at 11:35 p.m. Thursday, according to a release.
A 20-year-old driver was heading westbound on Myrtle Street towards the intersection, and the pedestrian suddenly tried to cross in front of the vehicle, troopers said. The driver was unable to stop in time and hit the pedestrian.
The intersection is dark and unlit, troopers said, and the driver is not being criminally charged.
