DESOTO -- A 35-year-old pedestrian carrying a knife while fleeing from Florida Highway Patrol troopers trying to serve a felony warrant was struck and killed at 12:58 p.m. when he ran in front of a semi-truck at 12:58 p.m. Tuesday on State Road 70 east of Hansel Avenue.
The Dekalb, Ill., man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to an FHP report.
The 2005 tractor-trailer was westbound on S.R. 70, when the fugitive, openly carrying a knife and running on the north shoulder of S.R. 70 against traffic, was running from DeSoto County Sheriff's Office deputies attempting to serve a felony warrant on him.
The fugitive dropped the knife onto the north shoulder of S.R. 70 and ran in a southwest direction directly into the path of the approaching truck, according to the FHP report. The body of the fugitive was knocked in the the center lane divider of S.R. 70.

The crash remains under investigation. No charges are pending against the truck driver.
There was no indication what the felony warrant being served involved.
